Haydn Gear
Born and bred in Abergavenny Haydn Gear attended King Henry VIII Grammar School prior to studying at Bristol and Newport Colleges of Art. Following that he won a place to study at the prestigious Goldsmiths College in London and specialised in painting. Soon afterwards, having qualified as a graduate Art teacher he taught in various schools and colleges in London before moving to the north of England. He took up a post as Head of Fine Art in a Yorkshire college and around the same time was seconded to Leeds University where he researched the area of Art Therapy, dealing with mentally ill patients and prisoners. Having taken early retirement he then returned to his native South Wales in 2002.
His work of late focuses on the landscape of Wales and Still Life but also embraces an abiding interest in astronomical and scientific material.
